Anthems: The Soundtrack of Our Lives
There are songs, and then there are anthems.
Anthems pull you in deeper. They don’t just fill the air; they fill your soul. They grab hold of something universal, something unspoken, and suddenly you’re not just listening, you’re living it.
I bet, if you’re not already singing, you’re holding a familiar tune back right now as you read these words.
So, what’s the song that pulls you back, pulls you in, and pulls you forward?
"Jack and Diane painted a picture of my life and my dreams
Suddenly this crazy world made more sense to me
Well, I heard it today, and I couldn't help but sing along
'Cause every time I hear that song..."
— Kenny Chesney, "I Go Back"
Music does that, doesn’t it?
It takes you somewhere and it defies time – back to a moment, forward to a vision, and deeper into where you are right now, all at the same time. It’s not just sound; it’s a feeling, a memory, a reminder of what’s real.
For me, one of the big ones is "Simple Man" by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
"God bless the simple man."
For the first two years of his life and for six months before he was born, Ang sang Simple Man to Mase every night at bedtime. Programming the message deep in his DNA. He didn’t understand the words, but he got the message and in the years to come, the weight of his mother’s message will land and then code will be integrated. Past, present and future coming together like an echo, a wish, a truth known and lived but one that he hasn’t fully lived yet. The offering of a roadmap and a place to come home to, always there waiting to be heard.
These are the songs that aren’t just songs. They’re anchors when we’re drifting, mirrors when we’ve lost sight of ourselves, and bridges when we’re searching for something more.
This week’s blog is all about music, not just as sound, but as a universal language that connects us to the rhythm of life itself.
"You better lose yourself in the music, the moment, you own it, you better never let it go." — Eminem, "Lose Yourself"
Let it remind you of where you’ve been. Let it pull you toward where you’re meant to go. Let it be a bridge between who you are and who you’re becoming.
What’s your anthem?
