No, It’s Not Normal: Breaking the Cycles...
This week’s blog dives into something that hit me unexpectedly while watching MasterChef with my family. On the surface, it was just another episode of entertainment, but what struck me was how these shows subtly reinforce the cycles we’re all trapped in without even realizing it. And that’s exactly what I want to talk about today: the invisible cycles that keep us striving, struggling, and disconnected from our true selves.
In the blog, I shared the story of the MasterChef twist where two contestants were sent home—one who had excelled all season and one who fell short. It wasn’t just the elimination that got me; it was the realization that what we’re watching isn’t just entertainment. It’s a mirror of the cycles we live in every day: cycles of judgment, competition, and constant striving for approval. And as much as we think we’re watching something fun and harmless, these shows reinforce the very struggles so many of us are trying to break free from.
But here’s where it gets personal—and what I wanted to share with you today.
The Deeper Reflection
We don’t just watch these cycles. We live them. Every day, we’re pulled into situations where our worth is judged, often by forces outside of our control. Whether it’s our jobs, relationships, or even our internal dialogue, we’re constantly measuring ourselves against a standard that was never really ours to begin with.
If you’ve been following my journey, you know that a huge part of my work is about breaking free from these cycles. But here’s the truth: even as I’ve worked through my own healing, I’ve seen firsthand how easy it is to get pulled back into these patterns without realizing it.
It’s in the subtle moments—like watching a cooking show or hearing a casual comment—that these cycles reveal themselves. And once you see them for what they are, they lose their power over you. But you have to be willing to look, to question, and to dig deeper.
What’s Next?
This week’s blog is an invitation for you to do just that: to look at the cycles playing out in your life, to question the things you’ve always taken for granted, and to ask yourself, “Is this really me, or am I just following a script that someone else wrote?”
I won’t lie—it’s not easy work. But once you start to wake up to these cycles, you’ll find that the path to breaking free becomes clearer.
If you haven’t yet, check out the full blog post here. I think you’ll find it hits differently, especially if you’re ready to start seeing the invisible cycles that might be holding you back.
As always, thank you for being part of this journey with me. I appreciate you more than you know, and I hope this week’s reflection sparks something for you as it did for me.
In strength, truth, and love,
Scott
