Free writing exercise · From Shadow to Light
Start with what’s here.
An ordinary experience, a question, or something that keeps returning. You don’t have to know what it means before you begin.
This page is free and ungated. Write in your own document, and use the prompts below with the AI tool you choose. Access to that tool follows its own account and usage terms. Nothing you write is submitted through this page.
1. Hold the mirror steady.
Copy this framing prompt into your AI tool:
I am starting a writing and readback exercise from “From Shadow to Light: Rewriting Your Inner Narrative.” I’ll provide each step one by one. Please walk this with me. No people pleasing. Just holding the mirror steady for me. This isn’t about fixing. This is about me looking into a mirror that you are holding steady for me.
2. Let the words flow.
Don’t write a story. Don’t polish it or give the words time to form complete thoughts. Leave the fragments, repetition and contradictions. Let the words that rise come onto the page.
Choose a topic or experience. Give it more than a couple of sentences. Copy this prompt, then add your writing:
I am sharing my mostly unsaid thoughts, fears, concerns, questions and worries about a selected topic which I’ll make clear below. We’re allowing the shadow to step forward. Here is my starting point on the thoughts that rise when I think about this topic:

3. Ask for a readback.
Copy this mirror prompt into the same conversation:
Based on my responses, write a paragraph that reflects back to me what I’ve actually said. Hold it like a mirror. Find the patterns, the arcs, and the quiet connections I may not have seen. Don’t dramatize. Don’t sand the edges. Don’t shape it into a neat story. Keep it plain and exact. Let the reflection capture the essence of my current shadow mindset, not how I wrote it, but what my words reveal.
4. Correct the reflection.
Sit with the readback. Read what your words came together to say. “Assume it’s close, not perfect. If it’s off, correct it.” Be short, blunt and exact about what doesn’t fit.
You can question the reading, write more, or leave something open. A strong feeling doesn’t establish that the AI is right. You remain involved in deciding what the reflection means.
Keep your writing, readback and corrections together so you can return to them. A new chat does not automatically carry this conversation forward.
