Seven Months to a Lifetime
Dec 01, 2024
I was going to start this by saying last week was a great week. And it was. But thinking about the good weeks made me remember the bad ones. The endless loops of bad week after bad week. It wasn’t that long ago, just a handful of months, but it feels like another lifetime.
I spent years stuck in that cycle, fighting the same battles over and over again, telling myself it was just how life was. Until one day, I allowed myself to consider something radical: a future that wasn’t based on the present.
A future that didn’t look like the life I was living. A future that didn’t include most of what I had built.
And then I made a decision. I wasn’t going to survive in a life that wasn’t mine anymore. I was going to claim a future that was right for me, not just different, but true.
Seven Months.
I spent 48 years living one life. And in just seven months, I built another.
That sounds dramatic, but here’s the thing: it wasn’t magic. It wasn’t luck. It was clarity. It was realizing that the life I had been living, the one that felt constrained but safe, safe but constrained, wasn’t the only option.
For years, I had been co-creating that life, over and over again, based on what I knew. Based on what I believed I deserved. Based on lies I told myself about what was possible.
And then, one day, I chose to stop. I stopped fighting myself. I stopped fighting my truth. And I started building a life that felt like mine.
Seven months feels like a lifetime. Because it is.
The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
As we move through the season of gratitude and into the frenzy of December, the pace picks up. Calendars fill, then empty. The countdown begins.
And then, in one breath, we’re there: 3, 2, 1…Happy New Year.
The day the world decides to change.
But here’s the thing: the new year doesn’t have to be the starting point. You don’t have to wait for a ball to drop, a calendar to reset, or the clock to strike midnight.
You can decide to start now. Today. In this moment.
Because the life you want isn’t waiting for January 1st. It’s waiting for you to claim it.
The Power of One Decision
Seven months. That’s all it took to rebuild my life. Seven months to go from a life that wasn’t mine to a life that feels unstoppable.
I didn’t do it by waiting for the perfect time. I didn’t do it by telling myself I’d start tomorrow. I did it by deciding, fully, completely, without hesitation, to take the first step.
And you can, too.
Pick one day right now in the future. A day when something will come through, when something will relent. Write the story of that day. What will it feel like? Who will be there?
Here’s an example: I pictured the day I’d close my first deal in my new business. I could feel the handshake, hear the words of agreement, and see the pride in my family’s eyes when I shared the news. That image carried me through the moments of doubt.
What if you allow yourself to believe you have that much power? What if you can write the future? What if it works?
There’s only one way to find out.
This isn’t just about a New Year’s resolution. It’s about recognizing that every day is an opportunity to step into your truth. That one decision, made fully, has the power to create a ripple effect that changes everything.
The countdown to your future doesn’t start on January 1st. It starts the moment you choose it.
So, what will you choose?
What will you do if it works?
